Loretta Loy Adair - Still Life and Landscapes - Sonoma San Francisco Bay Area California Aritist
I was born in
Oakland, California and have been a Sonoma resident for the past fifteen years.
I am a self-taught oil painter-- to the extent that one is
"self-taught". I have been painting for several years and just
recently began to exhibit my work.
I like to focus
on still life realism, although I am expanding to portraiture and landscapes. I
love the inherent beauty of simple subjects and the play of shadow and light.
I'm passionate about painting and can appreciate all forms of expression. For
me, wrestling with paint is challenging, frustrating, humbling, surprising, and
exhilarating. I'm constantly trying to learn new techniques and to expand myself because the
more you think you know, the less you know.
In fact, I think artists should
never be fully satisfied with their work because it only results in complacency.
That's what make painting so wonderful. It's always interesting to see what
emerges from the blank canvas.
Painting is a deeply private matter and I've learned that the most important
thing is to paint what is true to one's own heart.
I hope you enjoy my paintings.
