Artists Statement
I
have been an artist for as long as I can remember. I sold my first drawing
in First Grade for ten cents. I have always been interested in art history
and where other artists get their ideas and inspirations. I have gained a
lot of influence from all the great teachers I’ve had in my life. They
taught me to take a look at some of the great art and push the ideas farther
to see how it can be done in a new way.
Most of my work stems from my own life and interests, horses, nature,
astronomy, weight training, and the beauty of the human form. I enjoy color
and like using it in an intense way. I think my work is very eclectic
because by nature I am very curious about my world and interested in trying
new things. My work takes many directions, at times from realistic to
experimental. Much of my work is humorous, often playing on words or images
to taunt my viewers. Another element I enjoy is playing with the negative
and positive space, so that at times you may not know which shape is which.
I have worked for several years using corrugated cardboard and foam board
with other materials such as bubble packing plastic, telephone wire, and
exotic papers.
